Danny Watkins lines up with 1st team

Andy Reid said on the first day of Training Camp, rookie Danny Watkins was his starting right guard.

So when Watkins finally took the field today for the first time since ending his hold out two days ago, it was no surprise to see him lined up with the first team offense.

Watkins, wearing #63, looked as good as a rookie participating in his first practice could look this morning. He was in their on all packages, as the team practiced third and short situations, goal line plays, and ran the regular offense. Watkins seems to be pulling a lot, as the Eagle seem intent on using his speed (for an offensive lineman) to get him to the other side of the field to block.

Watkins lined up as a starter in his first practice

The former Baylor offensive lineman is not the biggest player on the offensive line, but looked the part. His arrival put most of the offensive line together for the first time, as now only right guard Winston Justice is missing.

How much action Watkins will see in the Eagles first preseason game is unknown. It is hard to imagine the team throwing him out their with only a little more then a week of practice, but if he is going to start, it will be good for him to get out their and run with the first team.

Watkins, a former fire fighter, also got to use some of his EMS skills this morning. When Mike Patterson went down, Watkins rushed over to help the trainers in any way he could.

While he did not end up doing much to help the trainers ,it was an interesting end to the first practice for Watkins.

Jeremy Maclin joins team

Jeremy Maclin, who has been missing from camp due to an unknown illness, joined his team for the first time this training camp this morning.

Maclin jokes with McCoy on the sideline

Maclin came out as the rest of the team took the field, but did not have any pads on.Wearing only his practice jersey, Maclin stretched with injured Eagle Dion Lewis for about 20 minutes before going back into the team club house.

The 3rd year player would not speak to the media, and will not do so until he is back on the field practicing.

When Maclin later joined his team on the sidelines, running back LeSean McCoy threw a towel at him and joked “take this rookie.” Maclin walked around and greeted his teammates, many of which- such as Vince Young- he was meeting for the first time.

What Maclin is suffering from is still unknown. Some believe it is linked to mono, which he had earlier in the year.

Andy Reid said that doctors are encouraged by the test results, but until they are all in, he will not comment on Maclins status.

Mike Patterson rushed to hospital; is ‘doing fine’

Mike Patterson is ok after being rushed to the hospital this morning following a seizure he suffered on the field, according to Eagles team doctor Rick Burkholder.

According to multiple reports, Patterson is sending text messages to his teammates, letting him know that he is ok and not in any pain.

Teammates take as knee after Patterson is taken off the field

His agent, J.R. Ricket has released this statement regarding Patterson’s status.

“Mike Patterson is alert, in not pain and doing well. He lost consciousness on the field for a brief period and the Eagles medical staff responded accordingly,” said Ricket.

News that Patterson is doing fine is a happy ending to a very scary scene this morning at practice.

After finishing live 11 on 11 drills, Mike Patterson and the rest of the defensive line man ran to the lower field to do individual drills. It is at this point that Patterson, a 7 year veteran out of USC, collapsed to the ground and began convulsing.

For what was a few minutes but felt like forever, Patterson laid there, arms shaking as team mates tried to hold him down. Trainers rushed over to Patterson, who lost consciousness at that point. He laid on the ground for around 15 minutes while trainers, teammates, and coach Andy Reid looked over him. His teammates huddled around him, forming a circle to block the media from seeing him.

The ambulances pulled onto the field to take Patterson away, who was carried off on a stretcher. Multiple Eagles, including defensive end Trent Cole, were visibly upset and had to be consoled by teammates and coaches. Cole has been Pattersons teammate ever since he arrived to Philadelphia.

The ambulance sirens could be heard as the Eagles were forced to resume practice, a harsh reality in the world of the NFL.
