A few hours ago, Jonathan Tamari of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the Eagles will not sign any of their own free agents- meaning Stewart Bradley, David Akers and even Sav Rocca have more then likely played their last game as an Eagle.
One player amongst that group that has definitely played his last game is Quintin Mikell, who has signed a four year deal with the St. Louis Rams, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com. The financial details are not yet known.
It has been known for some time that Mikell would not be back, but with the lockout wiping out OTA’s, some thought the Eagles may opt to bring back the veteran safety. Ultimately that proved not to be the case, as Mikell is gone after only 1 day of free agency.
The fact Mikell signed quick is no surprise, as his wife is expecting a baby soon, and Mikell had expressed some concern about getting to his new team quickly to find docters, a hosptial, etc. Here is hoping Mikell is able to do that.
After the news broke, Mikell took to Twitter to thank the Eagles fans.
With Mikell out of the picture, the Eagles not only have Jaiquawn Jarrett, Nate Allen, Kurt Coleman, Colt Anderson, and Marlin Jackson on the roster at the safety position. If the Eagles do not sign a safety before the season starts, it will be a major risk and vote of confidence for Jarrett, Allen and Coleman.
Mikell should not have to wait long to face his former team- the Eagles travel to St. Louis in Week 1.
