Eagle player compares Kevin Kolb to Tom Brady

Although players and coaches are not allowed to talk right now, its hard to believe that some coach wasn’t feedingTrent Cole lines during a recent interview with SiriusXM Blitz.

Trent Cole sees serious potential in Kevin Kolb

When asked about Kevin Kolb, Trent Cole made a very- very- favorable comparison.

“Kolb can play,” said Cole.  “He is very, very accurate. I compare him to Tom Brady. I really do.”

Cole, a veteran on the team, said that he sees a very similar game style between the two.

” They can both throw it down field,” explained Cole. “They both know how to use the entire field. They can take 5 yards and work with that, make it 10 or 15 with yards after the catch. Kolb can make every throw.”

There is little reason to even go over the reasons that Kolb is not Tom Brady. Brady has a much stronger arm then Kolb, and while Kolb is a coaches son, he has shown that he does not have the same ability to read the field as Brady does.

“Kolb can make every throw,” continued Cole. “He knows where his players are. He, like Brady, is a great leader.”

I do agree with Cole about the leadership part. Kolb has shown the ability to get his teammates behind him, and is very popular in the locker room.

However, comparing him to a three time Super Bowl champion might be a little premature.

Even if Andy Reid told him to say it.

Jamaal Jackson says he’s ready to go

In 2009, the Eagles offensive line suffered at the end of the season when Jamaal Jackson went down with an ACL tear in his knee. Things only got worse for the Eagles and Jackson when he tore his elbow up in his first start back last season.

Jamaal Jackson missed all over last season with an elbow injury

But after overcoming two major injuries, the former starting center is now ready to go, according to comments he said to Tim McManus of Philly Sports Daily.

“I’ve been working real hard, trying to get back to my ’09 self.  A little bit of a road ahead of me but I think I’m on the right track,” said Jackson. “The knee is 100%, the elbow is 99.9, so I’m good to go.”

There is no question Jackson has been working hard. Every time I have been down to the PowerTrain workout center in New Jersey, Jackson has been there, working out and getting ready to contribute this season.

Once Jackson gets back on the field, where he fits is going to be interesting.  In place of Jackson the Eagles converted Mike McGlynn to center, who after a rouch start, showed real improvement and ended up being one of the better players on the offensive line.

McGlynn can be moved in to guard if Jackson comes back, but if Jackson is not playing up to McGlynns level, expect to see Mike moved right back into the center spot. In addition, Vick has now spent a whole season with McGlynn as his center, and has no experience with Jackson snapping him the ball.

With new offensive line coach Howard Mudd taking over for Juan Castillo, Jackson does not have a man in his corner like he would have had with Castillo. Mudd will play who is doing the best job, regardless of past experience. It is going to be one of the better training camp battles, once training camp finally starts.

It truly is a make or break year for Jackson, but it sounds like he is doing everything he can to be ready for it.

Reggie Bush to Eagles?

Yesterday, Michael Silver of Yahoo Sports reported that the Eagles could be interested in Albert Haynesworth and Plaxcio Burress, citing a source that told him the Eagles were ready to “go for it.”

While Reggie Bush of the New Orlean Saints was mentioned as a possibility, their was no report that the team was interested.

Will the Eagles pursue Reggie Bush? Yes, says a recent report.

Until now.

The Sporting News is now reporting that according to a source, the Eagles are indeed interested in the soon to be free agent running back.

It has been widely accepted around the league that Bush has played his last game with the Saints, and the teams drafting of Mark Ingraham in the first round only backed that up. Bush tweeting his good bye to Saints fans minutes after the selection only fueled the fire.

Clearly everything is speculation at this point, but for many reasons I do not believe Bush will be an Eagle this season.

First, there really is no place for Bush on the team. LeSean McCoy is just as good, if not better, as a pass catching option out of the back field- which is the primary way the Eagles like to get production out of their running back. Signing Bush would only take away touches from McCoy, something that Reid did not sound ready to do yesterday when he said that McCoy showed he could be a full time back.

Bush could help this team on special teams, giving DeSean Jackson a much needed break from carrying the whole unit on his back. But Bush is not going to sign somewhere just to return punts- and the amount of money it will take to sign him won’t be worth it.

Recent draft pick Dion Lewis gives the Eagles everything Bush does- for less money

The drafting of Dion Lewis from Pittsburgh is another reason the Eagles likely will not pursue Bush. Lewis is the same kind of back as Bush, but faster, younger, and cheaper. He also is smaller, something that helps in the screen game, and in the running game. A knock on Bush coming out of college was that he ran with his body up straight, and that has proven to be true.

Finally, Bush is not a up the middle, hard nose runner- which is the attribute the Eagles do need in a running back. No need for the Birds to bring in a less talented version of a running back they already have two of. Let alone a back who will come in expecting touches on an offense that does not have enough to go around as it is.

Sources can speculate all they want, but the logic does not add up. Plaxcio could help this team in the red zone. Haynesworth, if he plays up to his potential, is a game changer at a position the Eagles need. But Bush would bring very little to a team, and an offense, that does not need him.

LeSean McCoy calls out Osi Umenyiora

LeSean McCoy, a day after Andy Reid said that he proved he can be the full time back in an offense, took to twitter to let his feelings be known about a certain New York Giant.

LeSean McCoy apparently does not think highly of Osi Umenyiora

Adam Schefter of ESPN tweeted a report that Osi Umenyiora, defensive end for the New York Giants, was in court saying that the Giants broke their promise with him.

McCoy did not seem to interested in Umenyiora’s legal troubles, and instead decided to let his feelings be known about the former Pro-Bowl player.

“Overrated n soft 3rd best d-line on his team honestly” tweeted McCoy (@CutonDime25).

These days there’s really not that much difference from calling a player out on twitter or in an interview, so you can believe that Umenyiora will be hearing about McCoys comments. It won’t matter to Umenyiora that McCoy was indeed correct in his assessment.

It’s good to see the young Eagles not be afraid of another team, or the stars on it. McCoy is a leader amongst the running backs, and his leadership role will only grow this year with friend Dion Lewis joining the back field.

Let’s see if McCoy can back up his talk about Umenyiora- like he did last year with his game winning touchdown.

Source: Eagles “loading up and going for it”

A few days ago, Eagles owner Jeffery Lurie spoke about the teams aggressive off season plan they have ready to go when the lock out is lifted.

Details of that plan now seem to be leaking, and Michael Silver of Yahoo Sports thinks the Eagles are ready to go all out.

Howie Roseman says his team is ready to go once the lockout is lifted

“This is the year” said the source to Silver. “We think we have a great shot to win it, and we’re loading up and going for it.”

What does loading up and going for it mean? Well, earlier today, Silver reported that Eagles new defensive line coach Jim Washburn desperately wants soon to be free agent Albert Haynesworth. This move would make sense, as Reid loves to win the game at the line, and if Washburn is convinced he can turn Hanyesworth around, Reid should be all for it.

Silver also reports that Andy Reid “loves” the idea of adding Plaxico Burress. This would go along with what Reid said earlier in the day during a chat on Philly.com. When asked about how he plans to address his teams red zone offensive woes, Reid said along with new plays, they will also have new players. If Silver is right, this seems to be a reference to Plaxico.

Not mentioned on the wish list was free agent corner Nnamdi Asomugha. Reid said during the same chat that the team should be fine at the right corner position. Reports have also come out that the Eagles are luke warm on Asomugha, with both his style of play and the anticipated price.

Silver qoutes Eagles G.M. Howie Roseman as saying that he is “ready for some action- right now.”

“I think there are going to be a lot of opportunities in front of us, players looking for short term deals who want to win a championship,” said Roseman to Silver. “Any good player that we think can help our team, we’re going to take a look at.”

Roseman is still new to the job, and could view this off season as his chance to make big moves via Plax and Haynesworth at a cheap price.

Short term options who want to win a Super Bowl have those two players names written all over it.
